Vibrants AdLib Music AdLib and Sound Blaster (1991-95)

This page contains the AdLib music created by most members of Vibrants. After switching to the PC in 1992, JCH created his own AdLib player that would play FM music in 9 channels. In contrast to most AdLib music found in games at that time, JCH made use of the advanced techniques he had learned on the Commodore 64 such as e.g. vibrato, slide and arpeggio tables. He even created a special version of the player with an additional 10th digitized track for Sound Blaster cards, although this was only used in three tunes. Later, JCH made an editor for the AdLib player that used the same track editing technique as found in his C64 editor.

In order to play the music below, we recommend you use the Ganbatte! plug-in for Winamp or XMPlay.

AdLib Music by JCH of Vibrants

Two tunes in this section was made in JCH's EdLib editor. However, most of the music in this section was made in the assembler sources, either by typing in the notes as hexadecimal numbers or by using a crude conversion tool to deal with the original C64 tunes. This section also contains the only three tunes with a 10th digitized track for Sound Blaster cards.

Note that the joystick icons in this section links to the Amiga version of the games and not the PC version. Information about the PC version of these games is practically gone today. Also note that the credits stated there is different for the PC version.

Before composing the above tunes in EdLib, Jesper Olsen made a few tunes in his very own AdLib player. The player didn't have an editor, but Jesper already had a lot of practice entering musical notes as hexadecimal numbers in source codes on the C64.

The following list contains MP3 encoded versions of these tunes (thus no special plug-in is required).

AdLib Music for the game Lollypop

The music for Lollypop was composed by Drax and Metal in cooperation. All sound effects were created by JCH.

All the music was composed in JCH's EdLib editor, while the sound effects (and the actual deployment of tunes) were made in the assembler sources. The level tunes were composed in only 5 voices to make room for sound effects in the remaining 4 voices.
